St Patrick's

ALTAN has been at the forefront of Irish traditional music for over 40 years, blending the raw energy of their native Donegal repertoire with a rare, melodic sensibility. Dolly Parton describes them as "the best traditional Irish band."

Altan celebrates 40 years with a Stateside tour this March from the Midwest to East Coast, including a special New York City St Patrick's Day concert with banjo ace Alison Brown on March 17th. The band will have their latest album 'Donegal' (2024, Compass), their 14th studio recording, praised by The Irish Echo as "a stunner...essential listening."

Altan is led by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, known for her fierce fiddling and her singing in both Irish and English. Newest member Clare Friel of The Friel Sisters duets on fiddle and voice. Accordion player Martin Tourish accompanies along with original members Ciaran Curran on bouzouki and Dáithí Sproule on guitar.

Now embarking on their fifth decade, Altan's commitment to their Donegal heritage ensures the music will endure for generations to come.
