A year ago today, chef Shaun Brady was fatally shot outside his Kansas City restaurant. His murder saddened Kansas City’s Irish-American community and indeed the entire city.
While Kansas City still mourns his death, the Irish-American community has found ways to honor Shaun’s memory.
This Labor Day weekend the Kansas City Irish Fest will sell a cookbook featuring Shaun’s favorite recipes and anecdotes about Shaun. The book will sell for $30 (plus tax) and all proceeds will go to Shaun's widow and children.
The Irish Fest runs from Aug. 29 through Aug. 31 at Kansas City’s Crown Center. kcirishfest.com.
The book, which will be on sale near the Culture Café on the festival grounds, is just one way the Irish Fest is remembering Shaun, a native of County Tipperary, Ireland.
For years, he served an Irish breakfast to hundreds of festival guests. This year the festival will bring back the Irish breakfast with a new name to honor Shaun’s memory. The Brady Brunch will feature an Irish breakfast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 31). The cookbook also will be on sale at the Brady Brunch
Irish breakfast tickets do not include admission tickets to the festival. Breakfast tickets are available at: https://www.kcirishfest.com/p/tickets/irish-breakfast1
Besides book sales at the festival, the cookbook will be on sale at Browne's Irish Market, 3300 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City. Other outlets will be announced soon.
A week following the festival, the book will be available for order at the Irish Fest website kcirishfest.com
