The Chicago-based mom moved from Ireland with her husband and two kids in 2011. “After we moved, she explained, “I searched for books about Ireland for my kids. So many books told a story of an ‘Irish leprechaun and pots of gold,’ and I didn’t consider this to be a real reflection of the Ireland I had just left behind. Buy Book Here
When I went back home that summer, I was chatting with illustrator Marina Wild, and together we decided to tell a fun children’s story about a more contemporary Ireland”.
Amie grew up in the west coast of Ireland, where every farmhouse owned a working red tractor. “So it made sense to make ‘Busy Red Tractor’ the main character in my story” she said ‘and to create a story around the adventures of this Irish tractor’.
Readers can also learn how to say their colors in Irish or Gaelic. “I really wanted to include our native language and introducing the colors of Ireland in Gaelic seemed like a nice way to do this”.
Galway based artist and illustrator, Marina Wild, hand painted each image from her studio, ‘Anoir Aneas’, in the heart of Connemara, Co. Galway.
“I took direct inspiration from the Irish countryside” explains Marina – “from the imposing ruin of Kilteel Castle in Kildare to the majestic Hook Head in Wexford – it all became a part of the story”.
