Solidarity TD Mick Barry told the Dáil that the law must change to allow adopted people have access to their own birth certs.
He will be speaking in a debate on Sinn Féin's Civil Registration Amendment Bill 2021.
The Bill would allow an adopted person to simply request their birth certificate through the General Registrar's Office.
Current practice sees survivors being denied their own birth certificates, often after long delays.
Deputy Barry said this morning: "We should not be proud of the fact that in our country in 2021 there are significant numbers of people who continue to be denied access to their birth certs. This practice must end and the Dáil must make very clear today the fact that this practice is going to end now very shortly."
