What we do
IPCFP operates thanks to 90 volunteers and just two part-time employees. Each week they unload and store 10,000+ pound food deliveries; rescue food from area grocery stores and farmers markets; distribute food, toiletries and pet food; and deliver to homebound clients. In 2020, we were one of the few pantries on Chicago’s NW side able to remain open throughout the entire COVID pandemic quarantine, serving more than 200 families every week. As a result, our Pantry was named a Pandemic Hero by the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Additional services and drives
The Pantry also holds annual school supply and coat drives, and hosts special holiday distributions. Our client services coordinator helps link eligible clients to available city, state and federal benefits, such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Veterans’ services. By partnering with local elected officials and non-profits, the Pantry organizes health fairs, hearing testing, and Medicare info sessions, among other events.Who we served in 2023
Hunger in our NW Chicago service area (zip codes 60618 and 60641) continues to grow. In 2023, we provided food to 18,950 individuals in 6,485 households. That client total comprises:29% who are children age 17 & younger
14% who are 60 years old or older
40 homebound clients who receive deliveries from volunteers each month
pet food for the 50% of clients who own pets of all kinds
