As the publisher of Irish American News I have had the pleasure of visiting Ireland over 25 times, and I will be heading over again from September 23 thru October 11th.
On my last visit to Ireland my wife Cathy and I were invited to the Trocadero Restaurant located in the heart of Dublin. As the founder of Food Industry News in Chicago, I've visited many fine dining establishments and Ireland has its share. The Trocadero ranks right up there for great food and customer service.
It doesn't hurt that they are located in the heart of the Theatre district near the Olympia, the Gaiety, the Abbey, and the Tivoli. The famous "tart with the cart," is close by. Grafton Street, St. Stephen's Green, and Trinity College are nearby as well - all must sees when in Dublin. The Trocadero has been around for sixty-seven years, and it's easy to see why. The food is great, the service is right up there with the best, and the ambiance is old school welcoming, and comfortable
Maitre'd, Director, and Co-owner Robert Doggett (pictured below) was on hand the evening we ate there but I'm guessing he is there many evenings to make his customers feel welcome and at home. It didn't hurt that I was there with friends I had met on previous visits to Ireland, and was introduced to more of their friends as well. The local Irish eat here all the time, and that's probably all you need to know!
That's the thing about Ireland. The people make the island what it is. From the people I meet in out of the way bars, or rent B an B's from, to the Consul Generals, Americans are always most welcome - even it the heart of tourist season! The Irish are great at giving places and things nicknames. That's when you know you've made it!
Head on over to The Troc when in Dublin, and tell them I sent you. They can blame me!
