Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny, spoke recently in Chicago at the Union League Club about the future of Ireland. The former Governor of Virginia, James McDowell, introduced Ireland's Ambassador to Ireland, Dan Mulhall, who has done a great job for the Irish in America and Chicago, who in turn introduced Enda Kenny.
The Taoiseach gave us a thumbnail history lesson of our island going back 5,000 years to the present day situation in Ireland with Brexit looming.
The Taoiseach was invited to Notre Dame to honour Denis Mulcahy who founded Project children, a programme that brought 23,000 kids from Northern Ireland to the US during the troubles to give them a respite from conflict and to break down sectarian barriers. There was a documentary about it screened in Notre Dame on Thursday night. While here, former Taoiseach also took the opportunity to discuss Ireland’s experience of globalisation as an EU member State.

The mostly positive speech highlighted the advancement that Ireland has made in its economy with over 750 American companies investing in Ireland and about the investment the Irish have made in America with some 500 companies making a home here.
Irish Tenor, Anthony Kearns, opened the event with the National Anthem, the Soldier's Song, and finished with a terrific rendition of Danny Boy.
