Come and Learn to Sing Great Old Traditional Irish Songs With Us!

Irishmen sing a lot. I mean A LOT! If you were over there and asked the average old guy in a pub to sing you a song, he would probably belt something out that would just leave you speechless. Seriously, these guys can sing! The average old guy in an Irish pub would wipe the floor on American Idol.

My father-in-law and my wife all sang these songs too, along with the whole family. What fabulous voices they had! So it's in the honor and tradition and in the love of Irish families and old guys in Irish pubs singing in harmony that we do these songs. Love and happy times are what life is all about!

The Green Meadow Boys always go for the most beautiful vocal renderings they can. In tight three part harmony, they will sing twenty-four great old Traditional Irish Folk tunes brought to America by generations of Irish folk past.

Many of these songs are adapted from Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy, and we all owe a great debt of gratitude to them for the joy and happiness they brought to so many in their lifetimes and still do today in their recordings. We've included many additional great old Irish tunes as well.

We are presenting a standard rendering of 24 of these great old tunes, with three part harmonies on choruses, and all the known verses sung in cycle by the boys.

All choruses will be video projected, and we'll start each song by teaching folks the chorus. We'll do great old tunes like 'Black Velvet Band'. Everybody loves the chorus on that! "Her eyes they shown like the diamonds...!"

The Green Meadow Boys songbook is a standard rendering anyone can work from. We'll have some softbound copies available at the show for anyone who wants to learn how to sing some of the songs.

Truth be told, we all have rythm in our veins, and sometimes that comes out pretty strong in Green Meadow Boys music. We are Irish-American for sure, with our rhythm.  It's odd how the AI on my phone keeps changing our name to the 'Green Metal Boys', and that's happened on at least one showbill! I will have to admit you will definitely hear echos of decades of electric guitars in the mandolin renderings. I have upgraded mandolins, and my new Eastman is truly a beautiful instrument. How I love playing arpeggios on these tunes with it!

So we are here to present collection of 24 of the most beautiful songs we have come across in the vast Irish Folk Tradition.

What you will hear is a well-honed body of work by the Green Meadow Boys. The vocal harmonies and instrumental work has been fine-tuned over a five year period, and this show will be at the end of a six show tour of Chicago this March.

I saw Tommy a number of times in concert. What a voice that man had. He once sang us a song called 'Red is the Rose' and said there was beautiful harmony to it. I never did hear that harmony.

So I wrote one up for the band, and I have say, it is the most exquisite song we do. That harmony is the very, very best, and when it is executed properly, it is truly beautiful. I hope you will be as thrilled to hear it as I am to sing it! I'm putting it next to the last tune in the show. I hope you'll stick around for it!

=================================

It is our intent to begin developing a complete Youtube music video library of these tunes. Their lyrics so clearly define what the video should be that it seems a shame not to develop music videos for them.

Our first video will be 'Brennan on the Moor', featuring a very handsome young man who is also an outstanding rider. My wife has three Friesians, and my nephew has spent many years working on drone camera work (including a scientific expedition to Antarctica!), and I will simply set a small screenplay to the lyric. It should be a blast, with all sorts of big black horses with their feathers flying riding back and forth on the chorus!

Here's the link to what we have on our Youtube Library right now. This is one of my favorite tunes, 'Will You Go Lassie'.

We'll be updating this site with our future music videos, shot in our own bluescreen video recording studio, fading in and out of the storyline visually, as called for by the lyric. It should be fun!

Maybe in a future concert we'll have the video behind us!
