BAC Show is Carroll’s Only Chicago Appearance During St. Pat’s Season

(CHICAGO, Jan. 5, 2018) – Rooted in the Irish tradition of music and recognized across America and Ireland for her talent in and influence on that genre, fiddler and composer Liz Carroll performs in her only Chicago appearance during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day season on Sat., Feb. 24, 8 p.m., Beverly Art Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Carroll will play traditional and original Irish music with award-winning performers, musician Jake Charron and dancer/musician Nic Gareiss. Link to tickets

Raised on Chicago’s South Side (Visitation parish), Liz Carroll has spent a lifetime embraced by the culture of Irish music and dance. Playing and composing since she was a little girl, Carroll astounded the music world by winning the senior All-Ireland Fiddle Championship when she was just 18 years old. Since then, she has been performing around the world.

Recognized as one of world’s great Irish fiddlers, Carroll was honored with a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts for contributions to Irish music in America (1994). In 2010 she became the first Irish-American musician nominated for a Grammy, and the following year became the first American-born composer honored with the Cumadóir TG4, Ireland's most significant traditional music prize.

Carroll’s brilliant musical ability can be appreciated in live performances, on television and radio, and on her many recordings. Her amazing skill and connection to audiences have earned her numerous recognitions and stellar reviews. The Irish American published that Carroll “conjures up a dizzying mixture of the sweetest tunes, the fastest runs, and the most dazzling display of musicianship imaginable.”

Performing with Carroll for an unforgettable concert of Irish music and movement at the Beverly Arts Center are Jake Charron and Nic Gareiss.

A touring and recording musician, pianist and guitarist, Charron performs and collaborates with award-winning musicians around the world. He plays and records traditional Canadian-Celtic music with The East Pointers, winners of three PEI Music Awards (2015).
Dancer and musician Nic Gareiss was described as "the most inventive and expressive step dancer on the scene” by the Boston Herald. Drawing from a variety of percussive dance traditions, Gareiss performs and choreographs for an impressive roster of musicians – including The Chieftains -- and institutions – including commissions from the Cork Opera House and the Irish Arts Council.

Tickets to see Liz Carroll with Jake Charron and Nic Gareiss are $25 and available at the Beverly Arts Center at 111th and south Western Avenue, via phone at 773-445-3838 or online at www.beverlyartcenter.org.
