Children & teens program
We hosted children’s events for the first time in March 2017 and they were such a success we are offering even more in 2018. And all events are free. We have Book Clubs for young, very young and older readers with Caroline Busher, Sarah Webb and Sarah Maria Griffin. Teenagers will have the marvellous opportunity to listen to writers like Donal Ryan, John Connolly and poets like Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin. What better way to nurture the pleasure of reading in your children?

The Beyond Borders Book Club
We invited people who live in Clare but are from another country to be part of this unusual book club. The selected readers were announced on 14th December and it looks like a stimulating group.

They will each present their favorite book by a writer from their country at four open book club meetings in January and February, where they discuss the book and the culture it comes from. The dates are Thursday 11th, 18th, 25th January and Thursday 1st February. The book club sessions are taking place at 8.00pm in the Rowan Tree Café Bar and all are welcome.

Sebastian Barry’s Days Without End - EBCF Recommends

Sebastian Barry’s wide-ranging Days Without End spans the Irish famine, life in the wild west, Native American wars and the civil war. While savage and brutal in parts, it is also described by a Costa judge as “one of the most wonderful depictions of love in the whole of fiction”. The reviews are full of superlatives. Judge for yourself, and hear this acclaimed author speak at the Festival in March - the only writer to win the Costa Prize twice.

Share your thoughts on this book and others on the Ennis Book Club Festival discussion group – we love to hear what you are reading and what you think of it.

Win a set of books for your bookclub
We have 8 copies of Sebastian Barry’s Days Without End to send to the lucky winner of this month’s competition, with thanks to The Ennis Bookshop. The question is inspired by an earlier book of his: What is the missing word from the song title “It’s a long, long way from ____ to here”?
