A Bolingbrook police officer, his mother, father, and brother died in a horrific auto accident in County Wexford Ireland.

Stephen Alexander, 49, a 17-year Bolingbrook Police Department veteran, his mother, Lily, father and brother Doug and Doug Jr. had just arrived in Ireland and were making their way to a relatives funeral when their rental car collided with a large truck on the highway. The truck driver and his passenger survived.

Steve was a park patrol officer with the Bolingbrook Police Department. He also was an assistant team leader for the Raid Entry and Containment Team; the lead department instructor in defensive tactics and use of force; and an instructor for firearms, rapid deployment and breaching.

He received numerous department commendations, including the Life Saving Award in 2013 and Top Gun Award, and he was nominated as Police Officer of the Year in 2014 and 2015.

He leaves behind two young daughters.
