Former Minister for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan is coming to Chicago to help raise awareness of the Centre of Excellence which opened its doors last August in Co. Kerry, Ireland.
He will be speaking at the fundraising event at the Drake Hotel in Chicago on February 22nd. The Centre of Excellence has been developed by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association at Currans,Co. Kerry.
The centre when completed will provide modern state of the art training facilities comprising of 6 flood-lit sand based pitches, 8 dressing rooms, catering facilities, medical rooms, strength and conditioning suite and perimeter running track at a cost of $10 million.
Over $7 million has been raised to date and it is hoped that the outstanding $2.5 million will be raised over 2019/20.
A table of 10 will cost $5,000 and is tax deductible.
Apart from providing facilities for the preparation of various teams representing Kerry in Gaelic Football,Hurling and Camogie the centre is also available to clubs from the global Irish Diaspora to use for training camps over the summer months. It is hoped that it will come to be recognized as the Global Irish Centre of Excellence for the promotion of Ireland's Gaelic Games for the diaspora.
