Greetings from the Brigid of Faughart Festival Team.  As we move deeper into winter darkness and approach the Winter Solstice it is important to remember that we are held within the energy of the Cailleach, the dark, deep aspect of the Divine Feminine.  In this place we can nurture the seeds of our own dreams and the visions for our lives, our communities and the whole family of beings on our planet.  This is a deep nurturing time so enjoy it and take time to move inwards in the care of the Cailleach. (See YouTube piece on the Brigid of Faughart Website.)

Here in Dundalk, we have been preparing a wonderful Brigid of Faughart Festival and Celebration of Imbolc for 2018 and we are delighted to share with you the news and the promise of that festival as we sink into the Winter Solstice time.  The 11th Brigid of Faughart Festival will take place in Faughart Dundalk and Ravensdale Co. Louth from Saturday Jan 27th until Sunday February 4th 2018.  The theme for the 2018 festival is “Brigid – Muse to the cultural creative”. This unique modern festival offers a range of exciting and creative events through which four different, yet interrelated aspects of Brigid, Earth Woman, Healer, Poet/Artist and Spiritual Teacher, are explored.

The Brigid of Faughart Festival will be launched by Anthony Murphy (author of Mythical Ireland, New Light on the Ancient Past), in the Louth County Library, Roden Place, Dundalk on Thursday 11th January at 6.15pm.  Everyone is invited to attend.

We look forward to welcoming you to some of these exciting events in our programme.

The first event  (Saturday 27th January) of the Festival is a Pilgrimage Walk from Lisnawilly House, Mount Avenue, Dundalk to Faughart Shrine (approximately 5km).  As we walk to Faughart our intention is to be a part of awakening the Imbolc energy of Brigid at Faughart.  Refreshments will be served at Faughart Shrine and there is an opportunity to explore all aspects of the Faughart Site with Pat O'Rourke and Roisin Cotter, see programme.

During the nine days of the Festival local, national and international speakers and teachers will offer many different educational opportunities to allow us learn from Brigid's wisdom through talks, workshops, forums, story telling, cross making, sound, music, dance, poetry and gardening.  Speakers include Sharon Blackie (author of If Women Rose Rooted) and Kate Fitzpatrick (author of Macha's Twins), two very significant books published in 2017.  A unique art exhibition 'Mi Camino a traves del Arte' with Una Curley will be on display from Monday 29th January to Friday 3rd February in the Oriel Centre, Dundalk.

On Brigid's Day we will have a special service at Faughart Shrine to honour Brigid in words and song.  On that day also healing will be offered by a group of local healers in the Outcomers Centre, Dundalk.

On Sunday 4th February the Festival will conclude with a Closing Ritual in Ravensdale Community Centre.

The Brigid of Faughart Festival is organised entirely by volunteers.  It's success depends primarily on word of mouth promotion, networking and your support.
We ask you to consider supporting the Festival in one of the following ways:

Volunteer with distribution of information before the Festival.
Volunteer to work at an event during the Festival.
Connect us with PR people or media people who might be interested in this event.
Sponsor an event.
Make a donation to the Festival Fund (click on DONATE button near the bottom on right hand side of page)

Accommodation can be booked through the Dundalk Community Tourist Office (042 9352111)  Special Package may be available.
