St. Louis Gaelic Athletic Club "Clash of the Ash" Spring League Hurling Championship Scheduled for June 28

Inaugural Gaelic Sports Festival Planned For July 5

Is St. Louis a hotbed of Ireland's national sports? You wouldn't guess it, but St. Louis hosts more games of the unique Irish sports of hurling, camogie and Gaelic football than any other North American city. The action of the St. Louis Gaelic Athletic Club (STLGAC) culminates Saturday, June 28, at Buder Park in Fenton, Mo., for the championship of our spring hurling league.

The "Clash of the Ash" begins at noon with an exhibition game between the older hurlers of the club against the younger ones. The championship game of the club's ten-week, six-team hurling league starts at 2 p.m.

Admission to the championship games is free to seasoned fans and those just curious. Popularity has grown the club to six teams in 2008, represented by St. Louis' finest Irish and Celtic establishments.

Guinness proudly sponsors the league and matches included the following six teams:
* Laclede Street Bar & Grill Stags
* Pat's Dogtown Bar and Grill Saints
* J. McGraugh's Celtics
* McGurk's Black Shamrocks
* Black Thorn Pub Sons of Liberty
* Tower Pub Crusaders

The STLGAC also announces the St. Louis Gaelic Sports Festival with hurling, camogie and Gaelic football teams from across the Midwest participating. The festival is a warm-up for the North American Gaelic Athletic Association Finals to be held in Boston over Labor Day weekend this year.
* Date: Saturday, July 5
* Time: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
* Place: Buder Park (Hwy 44 and 141)
