Irish Citizenship Consultants identifies and obtains the Irish and U.S. vital records that our clients need to apply for Irish dual citizenship.  We have consultants in Ireland who can obtain both older birth and marriage records, as well as baptismal certificates.  We also review any original, certified records that our clients may already have in their possession to determine whether the records are sufficient.  In addition, we perform an overall review of all records to be submitted to the Irish government to confirm there are no discrepancies between the records or other issues which might delay processing of our clients' applications.  For paying clients, we also offer complimentary assistance in completing the online application for Irish dual citizenship.  We offer a free consultation to clients who aren't sure if they are eligible to apply.  In addition to Irish dual citizenship applications, we also obtain the necessary records for our clients who wish to get married in Ireland, and for Irish citizens getting married in the U.S.

Obtaining dual citizenship, especially with EU member countries, has become increasingly popular over the last several years.  An estimate performed by CNN in 2012 showed that the total number (with all countries that allow dual citizenship) was "likely well over 1 million... and probably several times that."  Although the Irish government has not reported the number of Irish dual citizenship applications it processes each year, several news outlets have reported that Ireland processes more applications than any other country.  We expect the number of applications will rise in the next year based on the Brexit referendum decision.  Currently, the Irish government responds to an application for dual citizenship within 8 to 12 months.

The benefits of Irish dual citizenship include:  1) obtaining an Irish passport, which allows holders to freely travel within the European Union; 2) the right to travel, live, and own property in any European Union country; 3) enjoying Ireland's tax, social, health and educational benefits (although residential requirements do apply in some circumstances); 4) the amazing sights, people, pubs (and Guinness!); and 5) perhaps most importantly, honoring your Irish heritage.  Those with Irish citizenship are also in the unique position of enjoying free travel within the UK (even after the Brexit decision) based upon the Common Travel Area agreement between the two countries.  Many of our clients obtain Irish dual citizenship in order to freely live, work and travel in various EU countries.  For example, a recent client applied in order to purchase property for extended stays in Italy.

To be eligible, one must satisfy one of the following criteria:  1) born in Ireland prior to January 1, 2005; 2) have a parent of grandparent who was born in Ireland; 3) have a parent who obtained Irish citizenship prior to his/her birth (OR have a parent who obtained Irish citizenship after his/her birth if the birth was between July 17, 1956 and June 31, 1986 and the parent registered as an Irish citizen before July 1, 1986); or 4) have been married to an Irish citizen for 3 years or more, and the spouse has been an Irish citizen for 3 years or more (some residency requirements apply)
