Pritzker Director Madeleine Grynsztejn has announced the election of Michael O'Grady as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. The election was official on June 25, 2018, and O'Grady succeeds the former Board Chair, Anne Kaplan.

"We are thrilled to welcome Michael O'Grady as our new Chair of the Board of Trustees," says Madeleine Grynsztejn. "He brings a wide range of experience, capability, and commitment to the MCA as both a philanthropist and a business leader. We look forward to the ways his wisdom and dedication to contemporary art and education will contribute to the MCA's vision for the future."

Michael O'Grady is President and Chief Executive Officer of Northern Trust, one of the world's leading financial institutions focused on wealth management, asset management, and asset servicing. Prior to assuming his current role, O'Grady served as President of the Corporate and Institutional Services business unit at Northern Trust in 2015 and as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Northern Trust from 2011 to 2015. O'Grady joined Northern Trust in 2011 from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he served as a Managing Director in the firm's Investment Banking Group. He joined Merrill Lynch in 1992, and prior to that, worked for Price Waterhouse.

O'Grady was elected to the MCA's Board of Trustees in 2012. He has served as the Board's Secretary, as well as on the Executive, Building, and Finance Committees, where he helped guide the museum through its redesign for its 50th anniversary. He has also led Northern Trust to lend their support to the MCA as the lead sponsor of Vernissage at EXPO Chicago. In addition to his Board work at the MCA, O'Grady is involved with numerous organizations in Chicago. He is a member of the Boards of the Field Museum, the Catholic Extension, the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and the Board of Advisors of Catholic Charities. O'Grady earned a BBA from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business and is married to Claire O'Grady.

NEW TRUSTEES AT THE MCA

With his new appointment, O'Grady is pleased to announce the addition of Ashley Netzky, William Silverstein, and artist Lorna Simpson to the MCA's Board of Trustees for three-year terms. "We are pleased to announce the addition of these three exceptional community leaders to the MCA Board," said Michael O'Grady. "I have every confidence that their combined expertise, skill, and counsel will continue to make the MCA a global leader in the art world and our community."

Ashley Hemphill Netzky is an active board member and leader of several philanthropic organizations in the city. She is on the Board of Trustees of the Erikson Institute; is a member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Children's Museum; and recently completed a two-year term as Chairman of the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation. An 18-year veteran of the investment business, Netzky spent 16 years of her career at William Blair, most recently serving as the global research manager for the Investment Management department. Netzky received her bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College.

William (Bill) Silverstein has been an active real estate investor in multi-family apartment buildings in the Chicago city and suburbs for nearly 30 years. He founded Beal Properties in 1993, which oversees and operates his apartment portfolio. Silverstein has been actively involved in several Chicago and national philanthropic organizations.  Most recently, he served as Chairman of the Board of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. Currently, he sits on the Board of Directors of Lurie's Children's Hospital, as well as the Executive Committee of JUF. He has also chaired, along with his wife, Karyn, the 2015 US Holocaust Memorial Museum Luncheon. He is on the Board of Directors of Solomon Schechter Day School, where his three children attend school. Silverstein received his BA from the University of Michigan and his JD from Northwestern University School of Law.

Lorna Simpson came to prominence in the 1980s with her pioneering approach to conceptual photography. Simpson's early work - particularly her striking juxtapositions of text and staged images - raised questions about the nature of representation, identity, gender, race and history that continue to drive the artist's expanding and multi-disciplinary practice today. She deftly explores the medium's relation to memory and history, both central themes within her work. Her works have been exhibited at and are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Haus der Kunst; Munich amongst others. Important international exhibitions have included the Hugo Boss Prize at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, Documenta XI in Kassel, Germany, and the 56th Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy. Lorna Simpson is represented by Hauser & Wirth.
